Fundraiser, Fundraiser, Fundraiser!

I had the whole announcer voice thing going on in my head while I typed that blog title. Just thought you would like to know that.

December 6th from 2-6pm the Mississippi Mission Team is holding a Kid-Sitting Fundraiser at Felton Presbyterian! For a mere $20 per child (there is a deal for families) we'll take care of the kids while parents head out to go shopping, have a late lunch, go to a movie or just have 4 hours of peace! Snacks will be provided along with amazing Kid-Sitters! And we promise not to actually sit on them...much.

For all you Mississippi Team members that means that we need your help between 1pm and 7pm. Anyone who helps will have part of the proceeds put towards their trip. So spread the word, get kids there! It's gonna be fun.

As for our weekly updates...drumroll please...(yes I'm a little excitable today, I've been stuck at home sick all week, give me a break.)

Estimated amount needed: $16,000
Amount received to date: $8,904
Amount still needed: $7,096

2000 in a week isn't bad...but we can do better! Let's get that number lower!

Wednesday Update

It's that time again...time to give a little update on our financial situation. Checks have been coming in all week, which is an exciting thing. I like getting the mail these days!

The numbers today:

Estimated amount needed: $16,000
Amount received to date: $6,595
Amount still needed: $9,555

The gap between those numbers is getting closer! Yea!

In other news, a few of us have been talking about setting up a Memorial Garden of sorts at Felton Pres. in memory of those whom we have known in Pearlington who have died. There are three homeowners who I have personally worked for that have passed away in the last two years, which is three too many. They remind me that the work we are doing is important, that Hurricane Katrina is still taking a toll on the people in the Gulf Coast and that I'm not stopping this until the work is done!

In Memory

Roses at Miss Sandra's house:I got word today that one of our friends in Mississippi, Miss Sandra, passed away a couple of weeks ago. We met her on our 2nd trip to Pearlington in December of 2006 and she quickly captured our hearts. Anyone who worked at her property and on her house came away hoping and praying that she would be able to get back into the home that she and her dad built together. After many setbacks, it finally looked like that might actually happen for her as our team left last December. Sadly she never did.

I received this note after we got home in January:

Brittany--

Thank you so much, and please thank everyone else for me. For so many things, the flowers, the calendar, the labor and most of all for caring.

If it were not for the good hearts of wonderful people like the members of your church (and the grace of God) I wouldn't have made it this far.

This card can't being to express my appreciation.

Your Sister in Jesus Christ,
Sandra

Wednesday Update

I've been waiting and waiting all day for the mail person to come. Yesterday there were 4 checks in the mail. It was so exciting to open them and see which wonderful person was sponsored this time around!

But the mail person hasn't arrived yet...and I really don't want to post anything until they do because we are almost at a particular point in our fundraising and it would be SO cool to have that number to share...yet sadly the mail person isn't arriving. Writing about it isn't helping. So, I'm going to postpone my Wednesday update til Thursday and hope, hope, hope that the mail person arrives!
